Vintage Wedding Décor Ideas for Your Marquee
Bright, airy and reminiscent of old fashioned street parties and garden fetes, marquees are perfect for the spring or summer vintage wedding.
There are several options available when it comes to hanging décor for a vintage themed wedding. The first and probably most obvious is bunting which adds a feeling of nostalgia and fun. You could go patriotic and have union jack flags or opt for something a little lighter with Cath Kidston-esque florals. Great bunting variations include using lace or paper doilies as flags or having or ‘rag bunting’ where brightly coloured lengths of fabric are tied around the bunting cord.
Paper lanterns are another option for those decorating their wedding marquee with a vintage theme. They are available in a huge range of colours and are lightweight which makes them easy to hang.
On Your Tables
Vintage crockery can be picked up very cheaply at car boot sales and used to decorate your wedding tables. Fill old fashioned floral cups with flowers or, if you are crafty, turn them into beautiful scented candles. You are not restricted to cups as you could also create arrangements using old vases, bottles, jam jars, pearls and books.
Treat your guests to vintage sweets from candy-striped paper bags or a keepsake favour in the form of a fabric lavender heart. Alternatively, decorate your favour boxes with a vintage broaches and lace or finish jam jars by wrapping the lid with vintage fabric tied into place with ribbon or twine.
A few well-placed props can really help tie your theme together and add that ‘wow’ factor. Consider providing guests with a vintage typewriter as an alternative to the traditional guest book. Old suitcases make great card receptacles whilst pastel painted wooden ladders are a quirky flower pedestal alternative. Leaving a few over-sized vintage picture frames within reach will make your photos more interesting or you could take it a step further by creating a designated photo booth area within your marquee or outside on the lawn.
